How We Work

Our process of Design/Build

Custom Kitchens by Miles Burke both designs and builds all our projects. This simplifies the construction process and reduces the cost of the work. It also greatly simplifies the communication between all the parties involved in the project. This is because our customers have just one company to communicate with during the entire construction process. And because we develop the costs to build the project as it is being designed making it far easier to keep the construction costs within our customers’ budgets.

Free Initial Consultation

We will meet with you in your home to discuss your project. During our conversation we talk with you about your ideas for the project and your budget. We also talk with you about how our design/build process works including the details of the design process and our cost planning service.

Design & Cost Planning Agreement

If you would like to work with us we will ask you to sign a Design and Cost Planning Agreement and pay a small fee to retain our services. Then we will schedule a design and cost planning meeting in your home.

First Design Meeting

In our first design meeting we will go into the specifics of your project including layout, fixtures, cabinets, and appliances. If you have made decisions on which products and materials to use in your project we will include them in the initial drawings and specifications. We will take measurements and digital images to enable us to produce a detailed floor plan depicting the proposed work. If you need to make product selections we can assist you in determining which ones will meet you design criteria and budget. We can even help by visiting showrooms with you to view products.

Second Design Meeting

Once you have selected all the materials and products we will produce a detailed preliminary floor plan and a detailed list of the initial project costs. When we have completed the design and costing we will schedule a meeting with you to discuss the project. In this meeting we will go over the drawings and project costs so we can make any adjustments to the project based on your design requirements and project budget.

Cost Planning

Once you have approved the project plans and specifications we will produce the final detailed floor plan and interior elevations. We also finalize the costs for the proposed work. This will include a visit to the project site by subcontractors and material providers to ensure their pricing is accurate. Then we will create the final highly detailed cost break down of the project costs.

Final Design and Cost Planning Meeting

Once we have produced the final project drawings and detailed costs we will meet with you to discuss the completed documents. When you have approved all the final drawings and project costs we will present you with a Construction Agreement to build the project. When this document is signed and a deposit is received from you, we will begin the construction process.
